That is drop dead gorgeous, Wagner. How are you activating the punch head? It appears too slow to be a solenoid.

Hello Jim,

Thank you. It had to look good (and be quiet) so I am allowed to operate it out of the workshop.

I had problems with solenoids before. Returning the punch with a spring caused jamming at times, also the solenoid overheated.

Now I use a motor with an eccentric mounted ball bearing, it rolls on a bar with an oblong race that drives the puncher.

I think the following picture will show it better than words.

This is very cool. Did you write the software yourself ?
It looks like you could punch much wider music than the roll
you show on the video.

I love the swirly metal covering on the punch !!
What did the Mark I look like ?

Hi Stephen,

Thank you.

I did write part of the software; the one that converts MIDI file to punches. It is not complete yet, still needs some optimization.

The perforator is capable of handling up to 12 inches wide paper (piano roll 11 1/4"). The paper guides are adjustable and the punch/die set is interchangeable.

The swirl pattern helps disguise the scratches...

You can see the old version at the same web page, at the bottom.
