why organ statues? Dear People:
I just wanted to ask why are there organ statues in the first place and who started that on mechanical organs?

I suspect that it has a lot to do with feelings that we don't experience/appreciate today. In a video of his steam fair that I have, the late John Carter describes the 'educational' value of the fair in days gone by - how showmen would decorate their rides with pictures of exotic animals from far-away countries that ordinary people would never get the chance to see for real. I suspect it is the same with organ figures. People have always been fascinated by the idea of replicating the human in mechanical form and the automaton of a human figure was always an expensive novelty for the rich. But the ordinary man in the street would be equally fascinated by the 'automata' that he saw on the fairground organ.
Today our life is too sophisticated to really understand what an impact these sorts of features had on people 100+ years ago.

Very ture indeed. When I was little, one of the things that awwwed me the most was the figurines, in particular the band master. I remember asking either a relative that was their with me or my self about the band master facing me and not the pipes.
