I'm doing my Saturday usual, marking schoolwork. I have been listening to the 'Munchner Oktoberfest Orgel CD 'Let me entertain you' that I bought at last year's GDSF. Most enjoyable but why does the inlay card, in ascribing the organ to Gavioli, not mention Voigt by name? Was the latter responsible for the 1955 rebuild that is mentioned?
I'm now listening to Mortier Magic vol 3 (also purchased at the GDSF). Also enjoyable, but I prefer the organ sound in the 'LP' days (I have 3 of the organ) when there was a rank of wooden pipes, apparently not originals, in the lower front where the rank of metal pipes are now. I have a feeling that the ranks of pipes in the two upper chests were in use then. I'm told that, as 'they don't travel well', they are no longer in use.
Of the numerous recordings I have of organs, one of my favourites continues to be 'de Witte'.
What I would really like would be if someone could re-issue the earlier LP recordings of de Arabier on CD. They are classics (I have 6, I think) - a superb organ which I did actually see in Perlee's workshop 20-odd years ago.
Now it's back to the books.
