I know how you feel, last summer(2007) was very dry on mechancail music, so the only thing I did to entertain my self was going to chior practice and and holy mass at my church. Well that has been cured, more and more videos are appering on the internet with subscirption's to IMOD and MMD(and praying the Rosary every day about a year ago) I have found ways to entertain my self when school is out.
Really well, I am suprised a mechaical music fan in England is bored. You can go any where and find good mechancial music. We Southern Californian's are lucky though we have a carousel with a large sized band organ in good condition playing at the carousel in Griffith Park in Los Angeles California.

theres usualy plenty to do, but grandads on holiday, so theres nothing i can do, i would pack up the gavi for its next outing, but i want to play it, and I cant get a lift anywhere interesting., AND I had to miss dorset, which was a right bummer, Any one got any suggestions

If you think missing the GDSF is bad try missing every single club chapter metting all year long(except for our convention dinner). Hope to make another one , come October. You mentioning about your Grandad's(and yours) Gavioli, I assume you are raised in this hobby? Belive me, about the organs, the way kids are treated in the hobby in America is so bad. When some one mentioned about kids being in our hobby(on the MMD), such a fire storm broke out that our editor had to deleate all the postings, old and new about that subject.

Yeah, as my grandad does not know anything about an organ, we have this man called Peter Hopps who looks after our organs, hes really good to me, and teaches me as much as possible about organs, and how they work. And was it adults talking about this? Because in England, everyone is so willing to help you, and get you involved as much as possible. some people think im strange and all that rubbish, but i dont mind to be honest. most people like the fact young people get interested

Some help you with organs, there and there, and some are quite friendly to. Yes I assume it was some adults who made that subject a fire storm. It annoys me that the youth are discoraged from joining our club, although Like I said some are nice to kids, some are not. You really have to make your own way in order to really make it in our hobby here in America. I even had to wait a year and a half just to go see a collection. It really is crazy.

hi Jake!
Soz I've only just read your message today (Monday morning). I hope you found something to do over the w/e? The 13/14 September was the National Heritage weekend in UK with many places of interest being open to the public which are not normally open to the public or collections opening their doors for free when they usually charge an entrance fee and so on. What was happening in your area?
Here at Amersham the fair organ musuem was open all day Sunday as part of the Heritage activities in this neck of the woods. Some of our visitors arrived by vintage bus service from Old Amersham and had a guided tour of the collection before carrying on their bus jounrey. It was quite sunny for once this year.
I find with mechanical music no matter what the time of year, there is always something you can do or go and see and enjoy...I certainly never seem to have the time to do everything I would like to do. I'm already looking forward to the Octoberfest Festival organised by Paul Kirrage and a trip to Beligium and Holland I've got planned taking in the Bursens Centenery festival in Hobeken.
I met your grandad at GDSF and said to him you must come down to Amersham sometime either on an open day or private visit. You will also be able to see the restoration of old organs and production of cardboard music if that side of things interests you.
I'm glad Peter Hopps is teaching you things. Listen carefully to everything he tells you he is a real expert organ builder and we are lucky he is into mecanical organs as well. Good luck at your new school.
jory

Thanks for the offer, and im sure we will visit some time, i eventually ecided to pack up for our next outing with the gavi. were taking it to stokesley show with the small stage (no proscenium) Dr Busker will be joining us for stokesley show, as will Pauline.
Peter really is great. Hes so informative and educational. Although atm hes in Stockholm, building the biggest H&H organ ever, 160 and aomething stops! WOW. so Ill be organ grinding for the shows, which actually is quite scary.
