Wanted: Old Portable Wind-Up Gramophone (any condition) Hi folks,
Does anyone have an old (working or not) portable wind-up gramophone that is no longer wanted?
Having taken my vintage car to a couple of events now I’m missing having music, and I don’t think fitting a tow bar and towing an organ along is very practical, nor is that constant fiddling with 78s on an original player.
What I intend to do is fit an MP3 playing system inside the case of a small wind-up gramophone. I’ll then simply sit the system on the back seat of the car so I can leave it playing 1920s music all day, which if you take a look and listen to the video I made below featuring the piece “Happy Days and Lonely Nights” recorded in 1928 (same year as the car!) you’ll see really creates the perfect vintage ambience…

Anyway, if someone has an old gramophone suitable and cheap, please get in touch. I’d prefer it was a non-working one as don’t want to damage something that’s survived all this time, and it’s a -*test*-('")ament to the builders of these machines that looking on eBay all the machines I’ve seen on offer still work perfectly!
All the best,
Nick
