Shrewsbury 'Buttermarket' - Sunday 20th January Not strictly 'mechanical organ' but perhaps classifiable as 'dance organ,' for those of you, like me, who love the sound of the 'Mighty Wurlitzer' theatre organ, Phil Kelsall (from Blackpool) will be performing in concert on the 3-manual, 10-rank Wurlitzer of 'The Buttermarket' in Shrewsbury on Sunday 20th January. Doors open at 2pm and the concert commences at 3pm.
The organ is ex-Ritz Cinema, Chatham, and is in very original condition. It was one of the few Wurlitzers in this country to have the 'jellymould' illuminated console surround. The hall that it is now housed in is not very large, so the organ has a very powerful sound.
The organ is owned and maintained by the Shropshire Theatre Organ Trust and admission price for the concerts is very reasonable - usually around £4 or £5.
'The Buttermarket' is situated in Howard Street, right alongside Shrewsbury railway station. There is a car park right next to the building.
If you've never seen Phil Kelsall play then come along - I guarantee that you won't be disappointed.
