Restoring roof of showmans van As some will know my organ is built into a replica showmans living van, the roof is covered in some sort of fabric (tarpaulin?) which has seen better days and I'm in need of pointers to how such roofs are covered and where to get suitable materials, does anyone have any experience of such things?

Hi Greg,
The living wagon rooves are presumably as per steam road vehicle rooves. These are a fairly heavy duty canvas (I don't know any more than that) but the canvas is then given several coats of white lead paint. I understand the white lead is yet to be beaten.
You cannot buy white lead any more (lead: health & safety) but it is made & available to wind mill owners for painting their sails. You need to cultivate a friendly wind mill owner.
Can help further with this if you want to persevere with white lead & need a wind mill owner. In case you are guessing I do NOT own a windmill.
Edward.

Thanks Edward, searching for canvas roofs has lead me to narrow boats which apparently can have this sort of roof, either using paint or yacht varnish, I will investigate further.
