Questions - Generator & Snare Rattle Dear All
Finishing of "Millie", my 30 note Alan Pell continues with a view to getting out & about when the season starts. A couple of questions if anyone can help.......
1) The snare on the snare drum rattles when some of the pipes sound and it can be quite annoying. Is this usual? Can it be prevented?
2) What sort of power do I need to run the organ (Blower, midi box & floppy disk drive)? I see generators with ratings such as 2.5kva - what Kva will the organ use?

Seasons Greetings Bill!
It's not uncommon on some organs for the snare drum to 'rattle' when certain notes sound. On the early Tom Varley Centenery Verbeeck organ tapes you could hear the rattle particulary when some bass notes played.
To minimise this, it would take some experimentation perhaps with the snare springs (across the drum)? I've seen bits of felt & other insulation used on the drum mountings as well. Also the drums position in relation to the pipework and the accoustics within the organ truck have an effect.
On the subject of generators, its best to consult Alan Pell &/or an electrician to work out the combined power consumption. I would say the Midi box & floppy drive power consumption is quite minimal, the only thing that draws the currrent is the blower on startup, plus any lights & accessories. You also may want to get a trip installed for safety & to keep Mr Insurance happy!
