Pipe Up! Saturday 27 October 2007 Ok a little early to be thinking about, but I couldn't wait when I heard about it.
As advertised by Salisbury Cathedral:
pipe up!
The Diocese of Salisbury and the Salisbury Cathedral Outreach Team are organising a spectacular event in the Cathedral to encourage young musicians to learn the organ, pipe up!
The event will be held on Saturday 27 October 2007 and will feature both Cathedral organists, David Halls and Daniel Cook. They will be playing duets and solo items on the Cathedral Father Willis organ and a large electronic Copeman Hart organ which will feature in a ‘battle of the organs’ in a public concert at the end of the day.
Children from primary schools across the region will be invited to come and play the organs and listen to demonstrations. There will also be fairground organs, barrel organs, paper organs and competitions. Video screens will be used for the audience to see the players close up and music will be provided for a ‘silent movie’.
Large schools and churches in the diocese are being asked for access to organs and organ teachers on Saturday mornings during school term time. Children and parents will be able to attend group workshops at suitable venues with qualified teachers on exciting instruments.
The Diocese of Salisbury, supported financially by The Tindall Trust are wanting to invest in the future generation of church organists and wish to encourage and support young musicians who want to learn the organ.
All this is all very interesting to me, but particularly fairground organs, barrel organs and paper organs.
Just curious, has anyone here been asked about taking their organ to this event...

This sounds like a great event indeed, it would be brilliant if they would televise it as well. I'd love to make the trip to Salisbury for the day, but have a horrible feeling that it clashes with something we are involved in locally (also a musical event).
Funnily enough, the Salisbury Cathedral website http://www.salisburycathedral.org.uk/index.php doesn't have details of the event yet, but the http://www.churchmusictraining.info/ site does have details and I also found this pdf on the web http://www.salisburyanglican.org.uk/userfiles/0236.pdf which has the details and mentions some of the schools getting involved (you have to scroll down to find it).
Cheers

I guess any mechanical organs attending will be local ones, the only ones I can think of is Graham Spencers collection, Pam Corbins collection and the Stephens family Dean.

Does anyone know if this event is going ahead? I can still find no mention of it on the Salisbury Cathedral website and the link http://www.churchmusictraining.info/ mentions 'Saturday mornings' but doesn't specify the 27th Oct as being anything special, and doesn't mention the mechanical organs. The pdf does still have the information, but this was a dated document whose info may now be out of date.
