Hi folks,
This is a video I've found on youtube of Altobella Furiosa at Waldkirch Organ festival this year
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TIJCbdPrcNY&feature=related . It is the organ playing its la-*test*-('") book - Blues Brothers. This is the organ that my elder daughter fell for at the festival 6 years ago when she was nearly 6. She loved it again 3 years ago and this time once again it got her vote. We went into the museum several times during the 3 days, and on the Sunday she had gone back in on her own and I went to find her, only to discover that the organ was playing Blues Brothers again (I believe arranged by a young local arranger) and she was standing in front of it mesmerized.
My younger daughter loved the moving dog on the top of the organ, but thought it was too loud in the museum. She much preferred the smaller organs, in fact she completely fell for Organo Caribe (see one of John's photos) and we bought the CD which has been played several times in my car on the way to her nursery this week since returning home! See their site at
http://www.organo-caribe.de/ (unfortunately no video on youtube and we didn't video them). But I'm sure you'll think their site entry page is fun!
Once again, the festival was brilliant, we all enjoyed ourselves (meeting various people we know again, the food, the organs, the scenery, our guest house, the play-parks dotted across the city - very important when you have children). The long journey to and from the festival was bearable too.
I'm sure Eleanor doesn't mind being called quite the young lady (I'll tell her Ian), she is in secondary school now and extremely musical (a talented violinist). She is badgering her father to finish building that hand turned organ we've got sitting in our hallway!!! I think Waldkirch has given us all renewed inspiration.
Anna :)
