Organ Video Clips from ‘YouTube’ website For those with a high-speed ASDL / Broadband connection, here are some facinating video clips I’ve come across in the last week on the video hosting website YouTube.
I thought they’d better go in this photo gallery rather than 'General Discussions'. Perhaps the photo section should be renamed as the 'iMOD Media Gallery' if anyone know of links to more video clips to enjoy, along with sound files maybe. Any thoughts on this?
“Old Songs and Cranks”, a very well edited documentary about street organ grinders in Paris. I didn’t realise there was such a culture for singing with the organs over there! Even a couple of visiting Brits are doing it with a Trueman and “Lambeth Walk”! Sound track in French, but English subtitles. Length is over 10 minutes, but my browser gets to 5:53 and stops, so I haven’t seen the end: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGNnvXEwXCE
Large Ruth fair organ at Myrtle Beach Pavilion, USA (note the revolving figures in the side wings – watch ‘em go!): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LODo0x6zcEI
Only a short clip, but a very nice one of the Perlee “De Arabier” in Amsterdam: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UyU225eYvtQ
“Mammoth Fair Organ: Waltzers Part 1” taken from an old 78. Maybe someone got the labels mixed up though, as this is a very nice Dutch street organ, not a fair organ… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uB8cUxFSN_E
“Mammoth Fair Organ: Waltzers Part 2”, again from a 78 and actually a Dutch street organ: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5udRcmuzD4
“Street Barrel Piano” (from old 78 record): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mMHFdEJWqXI
Street organ grinder: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3cawKWe0L_0
Who is this “organ expert” from here in the UK??? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ch69-xcy_8 He needs an organ banning order!
"Trudy" is the organ of the current COAA presisdent Dave Wasson. There are CD's of this organ available. I know Dave, and watched "Trudy" evolve over the years to it's present state. What you didn't see in the video is the Ferris wheel rool changer that he built based upon Phillips/Wurlitzer designs. That in itself is fascinating to watch work.
Great links James – so what happens then when White’s Gavi runs out of steam? Does it need a boiler -*test*-('") and certificate each year as well?
Here we have what the video taker called an “Automated Orchestra” – an unusual street / dance organ complete with two accordions on the front…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MUmZFkyQCP8
Google announced yesterday that they’re taking over youtube, so this free and fun video hosting website can only get better!

Just found this one of a real steam organ (honestly!) in Rotterdam...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgMKZTlGBbs
I'm sure there's plenty more of this sort of thing on the site if you look hard enough, and of course lots of videos are being uploaded daily.

What? You've never heard of that invention by that Yankee Joshua Stoddard called the calliope? (Pronounced cali-ope if you are "with it")
Stephen Brickles- 10-12-2006
So that's how you pronounce it !!
And there's me thinking it was a cal-ee-'ope :-)
Just kidding...
Man, those things are loud !!
There's a "Tangley Calliope" in the "History Museum" in San Jose near where I live - although it's driven by air not steam, the principal of the pipe whistles is the same as the one used on steamboats. Here's a closeup of one: http://www.bandorganmusic.com/machines/mtangley.htm
