boz@historyinharmony.comwww.historyinharmony.com
Just a short update to keep you informed as this time of year is full of Victorian events that just seem to pop up!
From Mark Jefford
Thanks for the Organ Updates and information therein. you seem to have knowledge of events that seem elusive elsewhere.
Another one happening tonight, tomorrow, Sat and Sun is the 23rd Lincoln Christmas Market promising festive delights galore.
With a wealth of seasonal craft and gift stalls, entertainments and traditional foods a visit to Lincoln Christmas Market is an ideal way to kick-start the Festive Season where the Cathedral Quarter of Lincoln, the grounds of Lincoln Castle and The Lawn, together with the cobbled streets of uphill Lincoln are transformed into a Victorian
and continental themed street market.

*Times subject to final confirmation, please check back
(http://www.lincoln.gov.uk/Events_det.asp?id=4202&sec_id=464&i_Events_DisplayID=1) or
contact the Tourist Information Centres to confirm. Free entry but be prepared to pay for a variety of hot edible Christmas Fayre.
I believe D & D Robinson will be in attendance with a Bruder organ and usually Sam Price is there with his replica. I'm not sure of any others though.
I noticed you mentioned on 27/11/04 that you'd not seen an automatic accordion. Fred Walker had one before he moved from Sibsey.
Hope this helps
Mark

2005 Coming Events
Can you also please add the MOOS AGM to the list? It's on Saturday the 12th of March at North Newington Social Club, near Banbury. I think John Glover's intentions is to make it an 'open house' type event so anyone would be welcome to come along and join in the fun of listening to the guest organs we have coming along. Talking of AGM's - how about including the FOPS day at Crich Tramway Museum on the Sunday after the FOPS AGM for completeness? Good point Jeremy. The AGM is on the 2/3rd April and is at the Bass Museum on Saturday with evenings entertainment in Derby at the Midland Hotel and the next day (Sunday) is at Crich Tramway Museum. Thanks for that one and for further details, please contact tours@historyinharmony.com
Pinkneys Green will be on the 7th and 8th of May next year. Need I say any more??!! No ideas as to what guest equipment is going yet. (Just to point out that Pinkney's Green near Maidenhead is a real Old Tyme Fairground with mechanical organs, steam engines and the atmosphere of a Victorian Fair - no modern rides, except for the bumper cars from the early 60's: If you haven't been there, then please try to go as you'll be totally amazed and for those who have already gone to it, then you'll know what I mean.
Anyone going to Pinkneys Green on the Sunday may also like to double up and stop in at the Barrel Organ Day at Teddy Reed's on the 8th. Plans are progressing well, and for those who attended last year's inaugural event, it is hoped to have the old favourites back along with some fresh instruments.
Also, although the dates haven't been officially announced yet, if my calculations are correct the Haarlem organ festival will be on Monday the 16th of May next year, and Arnhem the 29th of May. ( wait for confirmation from Holland before making arrangements please)
I think that's all for the moment!
See you soon,
Jazza!

From Rosanna Harris
Hi Boz,
Really like the update idea. Keep it going. You keep trying to add work to
your plate.
"There is also likely to be a medium-sized Bruder* in attendance, which has
also been restored by David for an American customer.I have to just make mention of this instrument as I heard a tape recording of it down at the Dorset Steam Fair and it sounds truly amazing definitely one to go and see especially as it will most likely go to its American owners in due course."
In regard to that Bruder - it belongs to Bill and me. It is a 63 key with
nearly 300 pipes - 8 bass. I'm not sure if that would raise it from
medium-sized to large or not. It has 3 cherubs and a bandmaster. The
figures are here in the States.
If we, with David's help, are successful in locating a proper trailer, the
organ will be at the 2005 Dorset Steam Fair next to Roger's Mortier.
Just thought you might like to know who the American owners were.
Cheers
Rosanna
Thanks for that Rosanna - I appreciate you letting me know.

Dear Boss, (sic - whatever that means, but I've seen it so many times when something is spelt wrong)
Two comments:
please start learning to write my name correctly: Meddeler instead of Meddler (oops!)
KDV's AGM is held in the Haarlem-museum on the 5th March 2005
Greetings from Holland,

Just returned back from taking Sharahazad to West Wickham last night. Excellent evening with many youngsters really taking an interest in the organ. The journey up there was unusual to say the least with the battery being flat upon arrival. Couldn't understand why as I have just rebuilt the dynamo on the lorry and changed the terminals on the vehicle from positive (+ve) to negative (-ve) earth. I had to go and buy another battery and putting it on also checked all of the terminals. It seemed that the old connectors were age hardened (I suppose that is to be expected for a 38 year old vehicle) and there was a poor contact, hence no charging. Have now rectified that and it seems to be all ok now. Also had some Line Dancing in front of the organ as well - must have been twenty or so women doing their stuff to a Samba number! Also had a Naval Military Band member who really liked the marches - he also liked other types of music thank goodness otherwise we'd have been marching towards goodness only knows where! Many of the old faces from previous times were there as well and the organ and lorry also seem to have their own followers which is great.

Returning back to maintenance - do keep an eye on your instrument if you have one, and make sure that you play it at least once a week as the dampness does attack the materials and the action can get stuck or even just slow down. Also remember that your organ tuner/builder has more time at this time of year to do the maintenance! Give them the opportunity of doing their best for your instrument.

Thanks for all of the new email addresses and a hearty welcome to all the new members who are not necessarily linked to just mechanical organs and their music. The list is gaining momentum daily from all over the world.
Finally.............
I am told that the Marlborough Victorian Evening takes place on the 9th December, the night before the Hungerford Victorian Evening. All I know is that King George VI will be there (No not the Late King, but a Burrell showman's engine and will be driven by Charlie) and both he and the engine will also be at the Hungerford Victorian bash the next night.
Until next time
Regards
Boz
