organ blower Has anyone purchased /used one of the small blowers as seen on ebay if you type in "organ blower?" Its the small 12-24 volt blower that appears to be also used for steam raising, etc.. It's used military surplus. I am wondering
how much water pressure is produced if anyone has used this type of blower.

Yes I purchased one off ebay it would have to be a very small organ. I have tried it on a pipe that runs on 3.1/2 water gage and it burley blew it. And I have tried it on a small reservoir with one pipe on it but still very poor. And I was running it on 24 volt.

organ blower I would agree, I received mine saturday. On 12 volts it only put out 2.5 in. and I thought it was fairly loud for it's size. Do you know of other sources for a blower that can put out about 4" of pressure. Its a neat little blower though..

I love these blowers. I have bought several of these on EBay before. They have a 0-10V input which controls the speed. If you buy them new they cost an absolute fortune, but they always seem to be fairly cheap on EBay. I've seen 110V and 240V models come up from time to time.

Hello Chris
Have a look at that adress: http://picasaweb.google.com/christianbla/Soufflerie/photo#4995486556635529234
I put a few pictures on how to transform an old vacuum cleaner into a wonderful organ blower. It is a 600 watts / 220 volts, but I run it under less than 50 volts, to have 14 cms Wg (5.5 inches). The box is insulated, so no much noise. I tried it on my busker, directly on the wind chest and it's good, better than with bellows and réservoir!
Salut!

How do you deal with the heat thrown off by a typical vaccuum cleaner motor? Voice the pipes with hot air? The stream that comes from mine is decidedly warm. I've seen a voicing table set up where a vaccuum cleaner motor was used, but they pumped the air through a series of cast iron radiators to cool if off before it got to the pipes--hardly practical for a portable organ!

That is the chief drawback of the Lamb flow through blowers. They are inexpensive, and produce ample wind at the desired pressure, but they reley upon that very air to cool the motor itself. The bypass blowers are better suited for supplying wind, but they are more expensive, but less than a purpose built organ blower. I've seen suitable Ametek-Lamb bypass blowers listed in the $500 range, nearly ten times what a flow through unit sells for. You can use a high pressure radial blower but unless you can fnd a good deal on a used one they cost as much as an Ametek bypass blower. The radial blowers are much larger as well.

Hello Roger and others,
1st: if you look closely the pictures, you can see the air going to pipes does'nt pass through the motor. There is a litle hole behind the motor so the blower can run during hours under pressure with the main outlet closed, without any problem! (I tried).
2nd: The motor is running under only 48 volts, with very low amps (I measured) so, no much heat...Temperature of air at outlet is the same than anywhere in my workshop (about 15 ° celsius at that season..)
3rd: I saw on certain organ a special blower where the motor is in the box where the inlet takes air...and I think a 24 volt motor gives heat a lot!
Best wishes to everybody!
