Hi Rob - I will eventually get around to uploading more stuff to the "restoration" section of the website - it is one of those TIME problems!!!

Dave Vincent- 12-24-2006
Hello, I'm Dave Vincent from Westland, Michigan, USA (that's right down near the bottom of the "mitten')
I have a home built Wurlitzer 125-style organ that I've been working on for years, as well as a start on a pair of home built 35-keyless small street organs, that I'm building simultaneously with a buddy of mine.
Since I arrange a little, I find it a creative outlet, and I need an organ to hear my work. Besides, the music cheers me up!

Why do you like mechanical music?
I enjoy mechanical music because the mechanics of its creation is understandable and this enables me to appreciate the sound more because I understand were it originated from.I love the theatre organ for the very same reason.
I also appreciate the hybrid type organs such as R.Hs Colossus were some
body as gone against conformity and produced a lovely sounding instument
that is a pleasure to listen to and appreciate.

Do you Own an Organ? What do you own?
No, but I am occasionally to be found sticking books through one (usually Keith Honour's "The Four Seasons")
Why do you like mechanical music?
I like the atmosphere it provides at steam rallies and events

Do you Own an Organ? What do you own?
A Wurlitzer Caliola that I rebuilt from parts that were in Mike Kitner's estate. It was basically a stack, pumps and rollframe castings. I had to make a new case, windchest pipes and machine the castings. I also have pipe parts to make a Wurlitzer 146, that is going to require everything else, case pumps stack and windchest.
Why do you like mechanical music?
The music, of course. That point where it all comes together and you actually hear something that is the sum of the whole.
I am also interested in Automata, Mechanical birds and MIDI roll scanning and playing. The nexus of my interest is the Jaquet-Droz musician, that is a doll that plays a small pipe organ. To learn more about Automata, which combines my interests in Music, clockwork and historical costuming I first studied clockmaking. I then collected watches, and now I collect fairgrounds organs.

Do you Own an Organ? What do you own?
I had an Orchestrelle and have a few player pianos etc but not yet a thundering Gavioli....I'm biding my time!
Why do you like mechanical music?
I've loved mechanical music all my life. When I was a kid Leonard Brooks' Chiappa and the Farley's Verbeeck used to visit the town periodically and I though they were great. I eventually bought a player piano and ....years later..... I'm now on the Player Piano Group (www.playerpianogroup.org.uk) committee. I play the piano and have a very large printed music collection (so if you need some old-time music just drop me a line) and have done some work in composing / arranging new music rolls from scratch.

Hi Adam,
Welcome to the funhouse!
I see you are familiar with Tony & Bridget's 50 key Verbeeck organ(s), I am still in fairly regular contact with them, although they have retired from traveling the organs owing to ill health, they are however played regularly to keep them running smoothly!
Regards

My hobby's are al sorts of mechanical instruments, fair, oldtimers and steam. I've bought ourselfs an 81er Volvo 244 for transportation to the fairs and organrally's. Our little man don't know the brand of it, but he always call's it "blauwe auto" *blue car

Do you Own an Organ? What do you own?
I don't own an organ yet; however, I would like to, or even better than buying one, build one.
Why do you like mechanical music?
I can't describe it exactly... there's just a feeling of satisfaction that I can't get with any other sort of hobby/collectible/whatever... the automatic music hobby is really like nothing else.
My very first memory is from when I was 1 year old and my parents were vacationing in Germany and went to a "war museum" that I have since found out is the Technik Museum at Sinsheim. All I remember is hearing what I now know are the Decap dance organs, and liking the accordions... a bit funny since now having seen and heard many other kind of instruments I rather prefer Mortier to Decap! (but, I suppose, it's all apples and oranges... they're both fruit, and they're both equally good in different ways).
I am glad to be a member of this forum and look forward to all the interesting discussions.
