What’s Your Name? Bill Edwards Where do you come From? Shenley, Hertfordshire, UK Do you Own an Organ and what? Castlewood Busker Organ (Almost finished!) Why do you like mechanical music? I have always loved funfairs (see www.fun-fairs.co.uk ) and a couple of years ago saw a JS 20note at a local fete - I tried to build one, but realised I wasn't as clever as I thought I was. I am now almost finished the Castlewood Kit & now think I am in a better position to try the JS again. I then started looking at Fairground Organs in a new light - I think I am now hooked! I have recently ordered a Pell Modular 30k Organ - delievery will be s few months, but I would appreciate any experiences you may have had. Regards Bill

What’s Your Name? Jay Caughron Where do you come From? Republic Missouri USA Do you Own an Organ and what? I have built John Smith 20 note Seniors and almost done with the 26 note Universal Why do you like mechanical music? When I was in grade school we would go to Wichita Ks to Joyland park where they had alarge organ playing in the park spent most of my time in front of it instead of going on the rides. Then sometime in the early 80s I got to hear my first street organ it was a display in a store. I was hooked right then and there. I made up my mind that I would find something like that to tear apart and make one then I stumbled across John Smith about 4 years ago. Boy was I in heaven. I love doing the detail work on the organs. On the list to build are more 20 Seniors, a Wurlitzer 105 and getting ready to start a organ from the book Small Barrel Organ by Johan de Vries. I am trying to find punched book music for the organ before building to see if I want to build it as a 36 or 38 note so far I'm not having much luck finding any so if someone can point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated. :D

36/36 note music
Hi Jay, On the list to build are more 20 Seniors, a Wurlitzer 105 and getting ready to start a organ from the book Small Barrel Organ by Johan de Vries. I am trying to find punched book music for the organ before building to see if I want to build it as a 36 or 38 note so far I'm not having much luck finding any so if someone can point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated. :D Have you tried these in th UK for 36/38 key or keyless music? Melvyn Wright www.melwright.com or Dean Organs www.deanorgans.co.uk both used computerised punching machines & can accommodate unusual scales. Regards Robert Washington.

Aubrey Froment- 01-14-2006

What’s Your Name? Aubrey Froment Where do you come From? Ely, Cambridgeshire Do you Own an Organ and what? We have a 52 key Pell in the family which I ocassionally take to rallies and shows. Why do you like mechanical music? My grandfather used to drive a Fowler plouging engine for Chivers Farms near Cambridge. When he was working close to home, my father used to follow on behind on his bike. My fathers interest in steam continued when he started going to the first rallies in the fifties. I believe I was taken to my first rally when I was 6 months old. (would have been sooner, but I was born in October) We started exhibiting at rallies in 1969 when my father purchased a 1923 Norton motorcycle. In 1981, he purchased a 27 key Pell showmans organ and in 1989 he purchased the 52 key Pell. We used to be out every wekend between mid April and early October. I have enjoyed mechanical music as long as I can remember. My favourite has to be the A+R Marenghi. If I have a preference, it is for fairground organs, but I enjoy listening to all types of mechanical organ.

Bob West- 01-16-2006
Introduction
NAME:- Bob West, ORGAN OWNER? Yes. Now own 31/100 Raffin Konzertorgel , before that owned a 26/44 Deleka For many years have taken the Saunders 98 key Gavioli to Steam Rallies complete with Stage Show and Showmans Steam Engines. I prefer hand turning as you meet your public. In the back of an Organ Lorry you meet no-one I am a great believer in talking up our hobby. You are not down and out organ grinders, You are Street Entertainers and as such should dress and act accordingly. Go to London or Bath and see the quality of acts and turn outs. Burn those Anoraks and Jeans. Go and buy a decent waistcoat and bowler or topper and for heavens sake look as if you are enjoying what you are doing. Bob West
