New event "The Fair Organ Oktoberfest"
Make a date in your diary now for SUNDAY OCTOBER 19th when the first “Fair Organ Oktoberfest” will be taking place in Knaphill near Woking, Surrey. This is a new event with the focus on historic fair organs built in Germany by makers such as Ruth, Voigt, Bruder etc. Up to seven genuine vintage organs will be playing on the day with all these manufacturers represented. A special visitor will be the well known Dutch organ personality Rein Schenk who will be making the journey from Holland specially to be at the event with his superb 1925 Alfred Bruder (model 33 – 52key). This will be the first time the organ has been to England and it is a rare chance for organ fans in the UK to see and hear a really first class instrument from Europe. The event is taking place in the grounds of the Mizens Miniature Railway and is combined with their first all steam locomotives day when all passenger rides on their beautiful woodland route of over a mile will be steam hauled. Up to six locos will be in service on the day with others on display in the engine sheds. It is a superb venue with good facilities and with additional attractions such as an old time children’s fun fair and a stall serving delicious authentic German Bockwurst to add to the “flavour” of the occasion, this promises to be a fair organ festival with something for all the family. There will be FREE ADMISSION and plenty of free parking. This will probably be the largest gathering of solely historic fair organs of German manufacture ever held in the UK. Watch out for full details, updates and a list of the organs attending which will be posted here in due course. Mizens Railway is situated in Barrs Lane, Knaphill nr Woking GU21 2JW. It is 5 miles from J11 of the M25 or J3 of the M3. There will be local sign posting. Woking is the nearest mainline station and has a good taxi service from outside (Knaphill is approx 10 minutes by cab).

Sounds a great idea! Is there anything happening on the Saturday by any chance? Peter

Paul Kirrage- 08-19-2008

It is a one day event only. Sunday October 19th from 12noon to 5pm. If it is well supported there is scope for expansion next year which may include extending it to two days.

Paul, thanks for your reply. My apologies for the inaugural 'fest'; I trust the day will be a great success. Peter
