Message colouring when 'read' seems to have stopped working
Normally when I log into the forum, the new messages which I have not read show up as 'red' color, once I read them, they change color to 'blue' to show that I have read them. I really liked this feature !! Now this color change doesn't happen until I log out and log in again instead of being real-time - is this a bug in the forum software ? Did the site update something ? Stephen

Hi Stephen, Many thanks for the feedback – I have reported this bug to our host Forumer. This company are doing a lot of updates to forum software at the moment, and there appears to have been some teething trouble over the last couple of weeks in sorting this out (for instance the ‘guest’ viewers counter which is constantly showing 0 at the moment). On the plus side, the new anti-spam update has hugely reduced the number of spammers getting through to make registration attempts, so hopefully the bugs resulting from the new software will soon be resolved. :D All the best, Nick

Many Thanks for reporting this !! Glad to know the spam has gone down. Stephen

One phenomenon I have found annoying since first using this board is this: Assume more than one forum (or more than one message in a forum) shows a red icon. I start reading, then I log out before I get to read them all. When returning none of the icons are red, causing me to lose track of what I've read. I haven't mentioned this before as I know there's nothing Nick can do, but since the subject has come up, maybe the hosts can attend to it. Regards, John

I have also seen that happen, John. It is kind of annoying because, like you say, you lose track of what you have read and have not read and sometimes you have to log-out without having read everything that is new. This would also be a good bug to report to the powers-that-be. Thanks, Stephen

Unfortunately I think this is a "Feature" rather than a bug. Every phpBB I use exhibits the same behavior, an dif you read the phpBB support forums you will find that this is the way it is intended to work. phpBB assumes you will read all the posts you are interested in each time you log in. It would be nice if it were an option to not mark messages read until they actually were. There exists a "keep unread flags" MOD that is supposed to change this behavior, but the host would have to install it. The current behavior of the read/not read indicators seems quite squirrelly, I hope they fix it soon, as I find it quite irritating. Cheers, Roger

The ‘unread post’ issue appears to have now been fixed and is working normally, but if any user finds this is not the case please reply below stating the browser type and version that you are using and I will forward this on to forumer. Cheers, Nick
