Instructions for Posting Photos and Smileys on iMOD
Posting Photos and Images on iMOD Can I post Images? Of course! Photos and images can indeed be shown in your posts, but please keep them a sensible size so as not to distort the page width (600 x 800 maximum). However, there is no facility at present for uploading images directly to this board. Therefore you must link to an image stored on a publicly accessible web server, e.g. http://www.some-unknown-place.net/my-picture.gif. (.JPG images allowed too). You cannot link to pictures stored on your own PC (unless it is a publicly accessible server) nor to images stored behind authentication mechanisms such as Hotmail or Yahoo mailboxes, password-protected sites, etc. To display the image use the BBCode How can I upload images to webspace? Most users will have some web space available to use for photos with their ISP that images can be uploaded to (usually FTP). But there are also lots of free hosts out there that offer plenty of space considering that images for forum use will be low resolution ‘screen viewing’ sizes (600 x 800 maximum remember!). One very good site I’ve come across that allows purely web-based file transfer (ideal for novice users) is http://www.filehigh.com - set up a free account, follow their instructions, and you can post as many images on here as you like! I've created an account with www.filehigh.com and uploaded some images. In simple steps, how do I get these images to show on my iMOD posts? Firstly log in to the account you created on filehigh.com. If you created a folder to store these images in, click on it, or else you should already see a list of the images you’ve uploaded to date. Now, for each photo you will see five boxes each with unique and slightly different code/web address writing in, and each with a button that says ‘Select’ next to it. Still with me? OK, now for the first image that you want to post, click the bottom of the five ‘Select’ buttons, which highlights a ‘IMG’ forum type of web address. The highlighted text turns blue in this lower box, so then just move the mouse curser over this, click the right mouse button, and then click ‘Copy’ on the menu that appears (using the left mouse button). Now, ideally with iMOD open in another window, write a post in the normal manor (tip: some of us prefer to write it in something like Microsoft Word first and then copy it across in one go, and benefit from spell checking and ability to save half way through!). Where you want the image you’ve just copied the address (or ‘URL’) to appear, simply right click the mouse and then left click ‘Paste’ and the URL will be pasted into the post at the curser point. It can be moved around if need be, but don't change it or add spaces within the parentheses. Put a couple of return spaces either side of this pasted Image URL to keep text from lapping straight onto the image, and that’s it! Repeat as much as you like to add more than one image, remembering to keep these Image URL tags return separated and on a new line to maintain a gap between each image. Click ‘Preview’ to check it’s worked, and that’s it! What are the image tags or image URLs actually for then? When you paste Image Tags or URL web addresses on here, you're basically telling this forum (or more accurately the browser that each user views this forum with) where to automatically download each image from, in order to display each one up here. Is there anywhere else I can upload images freely via the web to use on my iMOD postings? There are many sites out there which allow you to upload and host images... here are just a few of them: http://www.imageshack.us/ http://fapomatic.com http://imgboot.com http://imagehosting.us/ http://tinypic.com/ http://photobucket.com/ http://ihostphotos.com/ http://www.villagephotos.com/ http://www.imagevenue.com/ http://www.filehigh.com/ http://www.imgpal.com/ http://www.putfile.com/ http://www.mediaupload.net/ http://www.keepmyfile.com/ http://freehosting.hostrave.com/free-image-hosting/ http://www.imghosted.com/ http://mopacity.com/ http://www.forumsigs.com/ Please remember to keep the link active and not delete the image after the post has been made, as it will disappear from your posting and we won't be able to enjoy seeing it! Smileys What are Smileys? Smileys, or Emoticons, are small graphical images which can be used to express some feeling using a short code, e.g. :) means happy, :( means sad. The full list of emoticons can be seen via the posting form. Try not to overuse smileys, though, as they can quickly render a post unreadable and the moderators may decide to edit them out or remove the post altogether. How can I use bespoke Smileys? Under the present system we cannot add new Smileys to the board for everyone to use, though this is planned to be a future development alongside upgrade to phpBB3. However, users can still add their own Smilieys into posts providing they are listed on an external server… take a look at http://www.websmileys.com/ for example. Follow the instructions by simply clicking on the Smiley you want and copying the code, which must be in the form of the illustration location enclosed by the BBCode Enjoy! Hi Eddy, It’s quite simple; once you’ve uploaded a particular image to photobucket in your case, just copy the internet address (URL) of that image (eg http://www.photobucket.com/…..myfolder/niceorganpic1.JPG) and paste it in your iMOD post text in between “
