Gluing Primary-Action "Pill-Box" pouches together OK, since no-one has posted anything in the 'building' section for a while I'll start up a discussion on something which I was doing the other day after finally getting back to organ-building after a considerable hiatus.
For the primary action for my keyless organ, I am creating the small round pill-box pouches from two circular pieces of wood and a strip of leather.
Anyone got any bright ideas on how to hold everything together while you glue it and in what order ? I've tried a few techniques such as only putting the glue on the wooden discs then rolling the leather onto it, turning each disc etc.
You basically have to put both discs on the leather at the same time and roll the whole thing up, otherwise you would never get one of them on afterwards. Then I have to wait for the glue to dry before I glue the edges of the leather shut.
Anyway I want to hear suggestions, experiences etc and get a nice discussion going !!

Hi Stephen,
The easiest way is to make-up an assembly jig, consisting of concentric rods, each of a diameter matching the holes in the wood discs. One disc would have a hole large enough for the air transfer, and the other would have a pilot hole for the exhaust valve threaded wire. The jig would be a wood dowel of the larger diameter with a wire of the smaller diameter pressed into its end. To make things easier, you can glue a flange onto the dowel at the correct distance from the end, so that disc 1 is dropped onto the dowel up to the flange, and disc 2 is dropped onto the wire up to the dowel. The distance between the discs should be correct for your motors. Then simply glue round the discs and roll onto the leather. The leather can have a bead of glue applied first to form the seal after rolling.
Good luck :-)

Many Thanks John !!
That sounds like just what I was looking for.
I'll let you know how I get on.

Hi Stephen,
I’ve been looking around my hard drive to find a photo of the tool I use for making up primary pill-box motors, which is very similar to John describes above. I can’t find one though, so next time I’m home for long enough I’ll take a picture for you, if this is of use.
Kind regards,
Nick

Many thanks Nick !!
I have already begun to visualise in my mind the kind of tool I am going to make based on the inputs I have received so far !!
