Phil, You are quite right about the pipes running from C2 to C7. This is an 8-foot rank taken from a cinema organ (if your claim that they are Compton is correct). The metal they are made from is plain organ metal, consisting of about 80% lead and 20% tin. The large pieces of wood at their mouths are called roller-beards, which are very important in keeping the pipes' pitch to the fundamental. Without them the pitch would fly up to some high harmonic and render the pipes useless. A word of warning about soldering such pipes - as they are made of solder, what usually happens at the touch of a soldering iron is that the pipe melts leaving a huge hole - unless you happen to be an expert pipe-maker.
