Deleting and editing posts Hi Nick,
Can you please deleat this post,as I've sorted the problem
Please consider amending the forum's configuration to allow us to delete our own posts if needed. Sometimes we make the mistake of double-posting which is annoying to all readers.
Similarly, at present once a message has been posted here, we can't go back and edit it for spelling or grammar etc. This, too, is very annoying. Of course, we can use preview before committing messages to the forum, but as anybody in the print trade will tell you, errors are often noticed only after the event, when it's too late.
Regards,
John

Hi John,
Thanks for your feedback. This decision on post editing is presently under consideration.
On the one side editing posts has the advantages of solving spelling and accidental repetition issues, which would save James and I some work.
On the other hand editing could be used inappropriately to make statements in posts and then remove them after others have commented which would be most unfair. Unlikely I know, but possible. There is also the possibility that users might be bullied into removing comments by parties (non-iMOD members perhaps) who don’t agree with them yet inexplicably refrain from politely putting their side across in public favouring the underhand approach instead. Was this the reason why post editing was not allowed in the latter months on the FOPS forum?
How do other members feel? If the general opinion is that post editing should be allowed, it will be considered, providing it doesn’t restrict the ‘free speech’ spirit this forum presently enjoys. If changed, any abuse of the user edit facility to confuse and/or mislead iMOD members would be treated seriously so as to protect our readers.
I’m quite happy to go with the flow; no committee to rule us here so please post your thoughts on this subject below...

Hi Nick
I have made silly errors when posting, and am used to going back & editing. I feel much happier being able to do so.
The forum automatically adds a line "last edited...." so other members know a post has been editied.
I agree that any 'misuse' should be dealt with, although in five years on my funfair forum, it hasn't been a problem.
Regards
Bill

It's a shame there haven’t been more comments on this, but clearly the preference is that iMOD posts should be editable, and so from now on they are.
Please feel free to correct your own spelling, incorrect photo URLs, repeat posts etc.
From the experience of John and Bill above we shouldn’t have any problems resulting from this. It should however be pointed out that any misuse of editing to change meanings of original posts, or retract comments after a thread has been started, is deemed an inappropriate use of this facility and hence will be dealt with accordingly. This will protect the interests of other members and the integrity of the conversation in question.
Thank you both once again for bringing the matter to my attention so iMOD can improve to best suit its members.
Any other ideas / suggestions for improvements / feedback? I’m here to help!
All the best,
Nick

Thanks Nick for allowing post editing. However, I think you should consider allowing post deleting too. There seems to be an increase in the number of double-posting - and even treble-posting - of messages recently. I suspect that the culprit here is the slow response to the site with dial-up. As I've temporarily lost my broadband connection over the last month, I know what it's like.
Once I'm back on super-speed I'll be browsing those web-links and newly uploaded pictures, but I'm keeping well away for the time-being.
Regards,
John

Hi John,
Many thanks for your feedback. User deleting is now fully enabled, so repeated posts can be removed by their authors accordingly.
I'm going through the ISP wars at the moment too. BT Wholesale is having an argument with my service provider which has left all Euro1net customers (all 5500 of us!) presently without a broadband connection
I'd forgotten just how slow dial-up was :(
All the best,
Nick
